Crested Butte, Colorado

JC LeacockIt has been called the “Last Great Ski Town” of Colorado. As soon as you arrive you get it. Crested Butte is as beautiful as the pictures indicate. It is one of the few remaining Colorado Towns that has retained its historical mining town charm and resisted over-development. This is still a community. The people and their values and the friendly small town atmosphere are an integral part of what makes up Crested Butte. It is a destination that attracts people who appreciate the outdoors and the seasons and the changing beauty of the mountains. It is home to rich and modest alike, interacting as much on Main Street as on the ski slopes and trout streams. This is a town where people congregate to take part in the many festivals and parties. A community for sports enthusiasts, artisans, children, retirees and open-minded, good natured folks. This is a place where you can connect with your inner sense of what matters most to you.

Single Track Mountain Bike TrailsCrested Butte enjoys a true Shangri-La setting  surrounded by the West Elk Mountains, beautiful green river valleys and aspen forests. Jeep roads and a large network of single track trails give access to about 3,000 square miles of pristine wilderness area full of elk and deer. Crested Butte Mountain boasts some of the best skiing and snowboarding in North America, JC Leacockall enjoyed without waiting in lift lines. You really have to see Crested Butte in the winter, full of amazing white snow piled up to the eves of the Victorian houses to imagine how beautiful this place is.

But Crested Butte has also become an ideal year round environment. The alpine summers here are spectacular. In early summer the meadows turn green while the surrounding mountains are still capped in snow. Crested Butte is the official Wildflower Capital of Colorado and by July the festivals begin and people come to photograph the incredible displays of lupine, columbine, bluebells, paintbrush and mules ear sunflower that cover entire valleys.People also come to mountain bike the now famous single track, JC Leacockfly-fish the gold medal streams, white water raft, horseback ride, play golf or just relax in the perfect sunshine and clean alpine air.

By early fall the sky takes on a translucent quality, almost glowing as twilight sets in and the displays of stars and visible Milky Way “from horizon to horizon” come into full view.Soon the surrounding hillsides turn a solid gold as the aspen leaves say goodbye to summer. It’s then that the local residents start to talk about their favorite ski runs again because it will only be a couple of months before the lifts are running and the ski season is back in full gear. Crested Butte is that kind of place with a magical quality about it no matter what the season.

We at Greenstone are happy to pass on our passion for the mountains and for Crested Butte through the structures that we design, build and offer for sale to people that may know and love this place, or who are considering visiting for the first time. We hope that our homes may become part of your lives and help fulfill your dreams the way they have fulfilled ours!
