Greenstone Holdings is a design, development and construction company that specializes in conceiving and producing exceptional Colorado mountain properties that combine the historical architectures of the Rockies with best practices of fine world design.
The owners of Greenstone live in Colorado and are enthusiastic about the incredible outdoor activities that the Rocky Mountains have to offer in winter and summer. They are committed to selecting and integrating location, design and construction to not only produce a wonderful home but also one that contributes to a healthy, fulfilling lifestyle.
“We like to think that the homes we create are natural extensions of the mountains we love so much and will provide beautiful and sustainable living space for generations to come.”
Central to each project Greenstone undertakes is the theory that a successful end product is greatly determined by careful consideration of esthetics, function and sustainable practices. Location and relationship to the sun are important to all home design but even more so in alpine environments where the 300 days-per-year of Colorado sunshine can be harvested to provide maximum solar gain to heat the structure on cold winter days. Add to this the most efficient radiant floor heating systems, well insulated structures (with super insulated ceilings) and you have the basis for energy efficiency. We also add to all our homes the latest super-efficient EPA rated wood burning fireplaces and /or soapstone stoves. These devices produce 60,000 BTUs or more and can be used to heat large living spaces with little fuel and almost no pollution. Large soapstone stoves have been used in Finland for hundreds of years to heat homes. Soapstone is the most thermally efficient stone and will radiate heat all night to provide warmth.
Solar hot water systems and/or photovoltaic electric generation and storage systems can also be added to any of our designs upon agreement with the client.
All building materials are carefully selected to be non-toxic, environmentally friendly materials. We use re-claimed materials where possible, such as exterior siding, timbers, doors, hard wood floors, ironwork, etc.
Finally, we go to great lengths to ensure that all of our architecture and external material choices are not only esthetically pleasing but conform to their environments and are so well constructed as to provide quality living spaces for several generations to come.
